It turned out the way it had to. Planned and executed. Fits. Everyone’s talking about the weather — so are we! Just to spare ourselves further hassle with updates and the blocks, formatting, or code that come with them. We almost pulled it off, at least until SAULT crossed our plans with their “Chapter 1.”

Of course, there’s no connection. It just happened. Planned by Inflo and his Cleo, but for us it still came out of the blue. A ten-pack of fresh songs, peppered with those typically Sault-ish moments that may hardly surprise anymore, yet still sit comfortably and fit well. Overall, it’s almost a bit rough around the edges, with the occasional raw cut. Also worth mentioning is the involvement of Minneapolis gentlemen Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam. So far, so good.

— Only a stone’s throw away. So to speak. CARWYN ELLIS & RIO 18 are, as is well known, always good for a fusion of the Welsh language with the many beauties of contemporary Latin sounds. On “Shades Of Red,” NINA MIRANDA sings in the more internationally familiar English, while the band, in the opening sequence, seamlessly picks up on the Sault blueprint.

— SAMM HENSHAW has for some time now been an important voice of newer soul from London and its surroundings. With “Hair Down,” he asks the woman of his heart for the well-known Rapunzel gesture, setting it to a laid-back, head-nodding groove that’s hard to resist.

— More pressure, despite a relaxed beat and cushioning horn arrangements. JILL SCOTT states clearly what’s on and what’s not. “To Whom It May Concern” will be the new album, available from February 13 onward.

Nur um uns weitere Scherereien mit Updates, und den damit in Zusammenhang stehenden, Blöcken, Formatierungen oder Codes zu ersparen. Das ist uns fast gelungen, zumindest bis zu dem Zeitpunkt an dem uns SAULT mit ihrem „Chapter1“ den Plan durchkreuzten.

Natürlich gibt es keinen Zusammenhang. Es ist einfach so passiert. Geplant vom Inflo, und seiner Cleo, aber für uns dann eben doch wie aus heiterem Himmel. Ein Zehner-Pack mit frischen Songs, gespickt mit den Sault’schen Momenten, die zwar kaum mehr überraschen, aber dennoch angenehm in Sitz und Passform sind. Insgesamt schon fast ein wenig ungehobelt, dann und wann mit rauer Kante. Erwähnenswert finden wir zudem die Mitwirkung der Herren Terry Lewis und Jimmy Jam aus Minneapolis. So weit, so gut. – Nur einen Steinwurf entfern. Sozusagen. CARWYN ELLIS & RIO 18 sind bekanntermaßen immer für eine Fusion der walisischen Sprache mit den mannigfaltigen Schönheiten zeitgenössischer Latin-Sounds gut. Für „Shades Of Red“ singt NINA MIRANDA im international geläufigeren Englisch, während die Band in der Anfangssequenz in perfekter Manier an die Sault-Vorgaben anknüpft. – SAMM HENSHAW gilt uns schon seit geraumer Zeit als wichtige Stimme des neueren Soul aus London, und Umgebung. Mittels „Hair Down“ bittet er die Frau seines Herzens um die bekannte Rapunzel-Geste, und verwendet dazu einen lässig-kopfnickenden Groove, dem man sich kaum entziehen kann. – Mehr Druck, trotz entspanntem Beat und abfederndem Horn-Einsatz. JILL SCOTT sagt deutlich, was geht, und was nicht. „To Whom It May Concern“ wird das neue Album, dass ab dem 13. Februar zur Verfügung stehen wird.
